Record Label Pays for ex-Rapper’s PhD?

That’s Doctor Shante Roxanne to you, fool!
To sum things up, she was snubbed from proper royalties by her label, Warner Music, for rapping on such 80’s classics as “Roxanne’s Revenge“.
But the fat suits at Warner made the key mistake in underestimating this then project-living teen mom. She had a clause put in her contract whereby the label would be responsible for completely covering her education.. for life.
Obviously, they thought a good old social ceiling would be enough to handle that stipulation.
Wrong!
A long fight in the courts and $217,000 Warner bucks later, the rapper earned her psychology degree in 2001.
A tale to keep all of you artists looking to move into the corporate music world on your toes. They will screw you if you let them. Stay smart.
