My Top Favorite Sites to Download (free) Nerd Rap………

I’m already thinkin’ that this will wind up turning into a work-in-progress type deal. I’ll probably think of and/or discover more plus if anyone out there has some favorite site hook-ups they’d like to share send ‘em in to me (support at gmail dot com) and I’ll add them here.

Alright so just off the top of my skull.. here be a few cyber highway accessible locals where you can grab some good (AND FREE!) Nerdy Hip-Hop jams:

1. Rhymetorrents.com – Thee Granddaddy of free nerd rap compilations. The site has kinda’ been left to die unfortunately, got weeds crackin’ through the sidewalk and whatnot, and the forums seems to be suffering from a mean php meltdown, but you can still get your paws on the six first RT comps there, so there’s still value at this abandoned web spot.

2. Rhymetorrents.org – This is where the RT community and compilations continue. Since they took over the project, we’ve seen RT volumes 7 and 8 drop.. and 9 is set to drop in about a week. I can’t wait, and expect some reviews here no doubt. On the main page tabs they got links to their in-house comps and we’ll as a tab to a kinda’ somewhat a little disjointed but still very helpful Free Album Index. Also stop by the Music forum in their board, where seriously ear catchin’ singles are often dropped by the member base.

3. The Nerdcore Network – Another chill community offerin’ up free custom Nerd rap compilations. These ones being titled “Nerdcore’s Greatest Hits”. A grip of older and new tracks to peruse through right here. Make sure you’ve got an afternoon clear to commit to music listening before you start these downloads for sure.

4. The Ultimate Nerdcore Collection – This started as a private online collection of Nerdcore by a few friends in the Nerdcore Hip-Hop Stickam room (yeah, if you haven’t hit their room up on stick, do so now!), but has since grown into a very, very ambitious project to archive and share EVERY Nerdcore artists’ music. For free! :0 Now, I believe these cats like to keep a low profile on the whereabouts of this massive online warehouse of Nerdy goodness, so if you want the link, you have to ask personally or ask them direct  in stick. but believe this,  you will not be let down.

5. Nerdy Rotten Scoundrels – Created by one of my favorite, not just Nerdy Rapper, but RAPPERS plain and simple… The Ranger… this crew is international! And they have some boomin’ ass music to boot. Check ‘em out and make ample use of those album links!

Happy New Year, we back ma NERDS!!

Chea, kinda’ took an insane sabbatical from the blogosphere but have been keepin’ steady current with the Hip-Hop Nerd scene.. dunt even doubt. Ya’ll can expect some album reviews, current news, and our special brand of editorial commentary comin’ to hit you upside the head harder than a Large Hadron Collider particle. Google it.

Remixers listen up.. 50 bucks beckon

You probably saw Stevie Kincade’s Six-Slug Singles featured here as a new release.

The dude is now offering up fitty bones for the best remix. Aca’s have been made accessible. Grab the files, hit them crates, and claim your prize.

Peep this Rhymetorrents.org forum post for more details plus links to acapellas for each and every track from the album.  That’s right..  YOU choose which track you want to remix.  Doesn’t get much better than that.

Fact.. yours truly already tossed my proverbial hat in the ring, with a sample-based new take on “Music is my Epitaph”.

Check my remix submission out:

Random – Thanks For Supporting Random Vol. 2

Mista Mega Ran himself droppin’ some free lyrical dopeness as a thanks to the fans?

I think most of us feel like we should be thanking him for another collection of tracks.. myself. But I’ll take it.

FSR! Vol 2 is a collection of unreleased or remixed tracks.. just as a way of saying thanks for listening.

Stop! Twitter Time! aka How to Tweet a Dime

Have you ever found yourself pondering the question, “Hm, I wonder what MC Hammer thinks about online social networking?”

Me neither.

Usually, more often than not I find myself instead asking the question, “What!? You’re shitting me. MC Hammer is still alive?!”

Not only is he still alive, but apparently he has a million plus people following him on Twitter. I know. I didn’t get the memo either.

So why mention him now?

He has been traveling around California recently as a key speaker for the Gravity Summit, which at its core, is basically a conference for investors to gather and exchange knowledge on how to pimp the internet and its users to pull in more exposure to their brands. MC Hammer selling out? Never!

Wait, that’s right. Selling out is what he does best.

“Being in the center of my universe is important to me. That’s what Twitter lets me do… I want to get out in front of the conversation.”

If their was a nuclear war tomorrow, there would be nothing left living on the charred remnants of this planet but cockroaches and MC Hammer. I have no doubts that the man would make a deal with the bugs to ensure his survival.

He started out as a fairly decent Oakland based rapper. “Turn This Mutha Out” was a hype joint no doubt. But then he found immense fame by spitting two bit lyrics over Rick James loops. After that, it wasn’t about creativity. It was all about the dollar. Exhibit A:

[youtube WRAg_bjxTPg nolink]

The level of lyricism displayed there actually makes the line “Go, ninja, go, ninja, go!” look near Shakespearean. But Hammer sold out to the man, so all was buttery and sweet.

Then, in the wee bitty years of the 90’s, something strange occurred:

Gangsta Rap.

Hammer was undoubtedly like “Holy shit, I better lose those cameos on the Brady Bunch and Flintstones movie soundtracks like now! Get my agent on the phone, I need some malt liquor STAT!”

So once again, he “reinvents” himself. What you didn’t know? Hammer is a gangsta.

[youtube HoWsNhpY9Ec nolink]

He signs to Deathrow Records and proceeds to write and record music that actually makes us yearn for the good old days of the Adam’s Family Rap. What did we ever do to you, Hammer?

Now a days, he would have us believe that he is a “Reality Star”, with his new A&E show which follows his busted up family around. Where were the cameras when his mansion was being repossessed? I would have watched that. In fact, the only thing I would take advice from MC Hammer on is how to manage my money, and how to disperse it amongst my posse.

Then I would do the exact opposite.

Am I being a hater here? Well, maybe. What can I say, I hate fakes in Hip Hop. Especially those who not just benefit, but actually exceed in life because they turncoat, run, and assimilate instead of standing up for the art form.

Now the man is a speech giving expert on how to whore yourself, on our m-fucking internets no less!

For this reason, I have to award the “rapper” HHN.com’s prestigious fuck off and die award.

Record Label Pays for ex-Rapper’s PhD?

That’s Doctor Shante Roxanne to you, fool!

To sum things up, she was snubbed from proper royalties by her label, Warner Music, for rapping on such 80’s classics as “Roxanne’s Revenge“.

But the fat suits at Warner made the key mistake in underestimating this then project-living teen mom. She had a clause put in her contract whereby the label would be responsible for completely covering her education.. for life.

Obviously, they thought a good old social ceiling would be enough to handle that stipulation.

Wrong!

A long fight in the courts and $217,000 Warner bucks later, the rapper earned her psychology degree in 2001.

A tale to keep all of you artists looking to move into the corporate music world on your toes. They will screw you if you let them. Stay smart.

Westcoast, G-Funk inspired Nerd Rap?

Aight, sign us up.

I have been looking forward to and waiting for this cat’s new album, Admin Access, to drop for a minute now. To seemingly stave off frustration from those wanting the full-length release already, OGDV has been releasing a couple of tracks now and then online.

From what he has said, this first track here didn’t make it to the album. DL ‘em and join the Admin Access waiting party..

Compilation – NERDCORE LIVES VOLUME 1 (Jan to July 09)

This one comes from the Rhymetorrents.org community, sorted and hosted by member Kincade.  If you want a heads up on what this Nerdy Rap site has been up to so far in ‘09, this is one double disc you can’t skip.

See this forum post for the track listing.  We have featured many of these artists and tracks here already, but there are plenty of singles and hard to find rarities here as well, that most might have skipped over.

2 CD’s worth of music. And it’s free?
